Ivan Alejandro Maceda Vela Born in Mexico City, he began his musical studies at the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) and graduated Summa Cum Laude in guitar, under the guidance of Professor Fernando Cruz Vazquez at the National School of Music (ENM) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). On several occasions, he received recognition for academic excellence achievement from the director of this Institution. He attended master classes with Carlos Bonell, Remi Boucher, Carlos Perez and Javier Hinojosa, among others. In 2006, the Ministry of Culture of Mexico City gave him support to offer concerts through the program “Artes por Todas Partes” (Arts Everywhere). In 2008, he was finalist of the competition to be soloist with the Philharmonic Orchestra of the UNAM. He was a scholarship holder of the TELMEX Foundation and the Ministry of Public Education (SEP), both for high academic achievement; in addition, he also won a scholarship of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) through the Scenic Artists category in 2008, with the purpose of performing works for guitar and orchestra by Mexican composers.
He premiered works by composers such as Cesar Junco, Guillermo Diego, Arturo Salgado and Gabriel Briones, among others. In 2011, he will premier the first concerto for guitar and orchestra by the composer Leticia Armijo. As a soloist he has performed with the following orchestras: Guitar Orchestra of the ENM, Chamber Orchestra of the ENM, Youth Orchestra of Tepoztlan, Symphony Orchestra of the Federal Preventive Police, Symphony Orchestra of Coyoacan, Symphony Orchestra University of Hidalgo State, Orchestra of the Ministry of National Defense, Typical Orchestra of Mexico City (OTCM) and Camerata Centenario, by playing the Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra by Joaquin Rodrigo, Concierto San Angel by Gerardo Tamez and Concertino Mexicano by Ramon Noble. From January 2008 to date he has served as the lead guitarist of the OTCM. In addition, Ivan Maceda performed in USA as well as in major concert halls of Mexico City and other Mexican states, among which are: Sala Silvestre Revueltas Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center, Sala Carlos Chavez of University Cultural Center of the UNAM and Sala Manuel M. Ponce of the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Several times his concerts have been broadcasted on Radio UNAM. He has participated in events such as: Seventh Festival of Souls in Valle de Bravo and Villalobiana, Homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos at Casa do Brasil. He has also been a member of various groups including: Guitar National Orchestra, Ludens Ensemble of Soloists and OGENM and is a founding member of Coyoacan Guitar Quartet. In 2011, He earned a scholarship from the Jacobs School of Music of the Indiana University to pursue a Master of Music Performance under the guidance of the renowned guitarist Ernesto Bitetti.
